DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) is an authentication system used to certify that an email message has been sent by an authenticated server or individual. An e-signature is attached to the email’s header by using a private encryption key. When the email message is received, a public key that’s available in the global Domain Name System is used to validate who actually sent it and whether its content has been modified in any way. The essential purpose of DKIM is to prevent the widespread scam and spam emails, as it makes it impossible to fake an email address. If a message is sent from an email address claiming to belong to your bank, for example, but the signature doesn’t correspond, you will either not get the email at all, or you will get it with a notification that most probably it’s not an authentic one. It depends on mail service providers what exactly will happen with an email message which fails to pass the signature check. DomainKeys Identified Mail will also supply you with an added layer of security when you communicate with your business associates, for instance, since they can see that all the e-mails that you send are authentic and haven’t been manipulated on their way.
DomainKeys Identified Mail in Cloud Hosting
In case you host a domain name in a cloud hosting account from us, all the required records for using the DomainKeys Identified Mail option will be created by default. This will happen as soon as you add the domain name in the Control Panel’s Hosted Domains section, on the condition that it also uses our NS records. A private cryptographic key will be generated on our email servers, while a public key will be added to the Domain Name System automatically using the TXT resource record. In this way, you will not have to do anything manually and you will be able to take full advantage of all the benefits of this validation system – your email messages will reach any audience without being discarded and nobody will be able to send out messages forging your e-mail addresses. The latter is very important in case the nature of your Internet presence involves sending out regular newsletters or offers via email to prospective and existing clients.
DomainKeys Identified Mail in Semi-dedicated Hosting
All required DomainKeys Identified Mail records will be created automatically by our cloud platform when you add a domain name as hosted in a semi-dedicated server account, so in case you decide to purchase a semi-dedicated plan, you won’t have to set up anything to be able to take advantage of the email authentication system. The domain name must use our name servers so that its DNS records can be managed by our company and if this condition is fulfilled, a private encryption key will be created on our mail servers and a public key will be sent to the DNS system by a special TXT resource record. All email addresses that you create with the domain name will be protected by DKIM, which will make it impossible for third parties to spoof any email address. Both you and your colleagues or clients can take advantage of this feature, as it will ensure a much higher level of safety for your electronic communication.
