Custom MX and A Records
What is an A record? What's an MX record? What functions do they serve as part of the Domain Name System?
When you add a domain as hosted in some account, you typically set a pair of Name Servers to direct it to that specific provider. On their end, three records are set up automatically right after the domain name is added - one A record and two MX records. The first one is a numeric address, or IP address, that “tells” the domain where its site is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they reveal the server that deals with the emails for that particular domain. The site and the email hosting are generally regarded as one thing, when they're in reality two different services. Having independent records for them will enable you to have them with different companies if you wish. For example, some new company might have superb uptime for your website, but you may not want to switch your e-mail messages from your current host and by using an A record to point the Internet domain to the former and MX records to have the e-mails with the latter, you could get the best of both providers. These records are checked when you wish to open a website or send an email - in either case, the company whose name servers are used for the domain address will be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you've set records different from their own, the correct web/mail server will then be contacted and you are going to see the needed website or your e-mail is going to be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting
If you have a
Linux cloud hosting through us, you'll be able to see, create and change any A or MX record for your domains. As long as a specific domain name has our Name Servers, you're going to be able to modify particular records by using our Hepsia hosting CP and have your site or e-mails directed to any other provider if you wish to use only one of our services. Our advanced tool will allow you to have a domain name hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted elsewhere by modifying only its A record - this will not affect the main domain name at all. If you want to use the e-mail services of a different company and they want you to set up more than two MX records, you can easily do that with only a couple of clicks in the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. You can also set different latency for every MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting
If you acquire a
semi-dedicated server plan through our company, you'll be able to view and change the A and MX records for every one of the domain names or subdomains you host within the account. The Hepsia CP, which you will get to take care of the account, offers an state-of-the-art, though easy-to-use tool where all hosts will be listed in alphabetical order and you'll be able to modify their records with no more than a couple of mouse clicks. If you have to set up a new record, it'll be just as easy - choose the domain/subdomain, enter the IP address or mail server record and you are going to be all set. You will also be able to set different priority for the MX records you create in case that you choose to use a third-party email provider and they ask you to set up additional records aside from the two standard ones. If you experience any problems, we've got a in-depth Help section with videos where you can see first-hand how to setup or change any record.
